FAQs
Why should we hire interpreters from Arriva Translations?
We have a dedicated calendar department, which means that each time you send an email or pick up the phone, you’re not waiting around for answers. We take all the work of keeping track of the process off your shoulders. It doesn’t make sense for you to add to your work when you can have a professional team doing it for you!
Is my interpreter going to be certified?
Each of our interpreters must get the appropriate certification for the language they speak and the industry/specialization they serve, as demanded by state law. So the answer is yes, most definitely. We have higher expectations for accuracy, professional conduct, and taking good care of everyone involved than general industry standards.
What languages do you interpret or translate?
All the languages you require. You tell us the language, and we’ll find you an interpreter who’s certified in that language. As of 2020, our most common requests are for Spanish, and our most unusual are for small indigenous village languages spoken in remote areas of countries such as Mexico.
What kind of criteria helps you choose Arriva interpreters?
When an interpreter seems to be “always” available, we double check their record. Having been in this industry for a long time, we have a database with notes on each interpreter that we keep up to date, so we can track their overall history of customer satisfaction, as well as their certifications, experience, and any special notes.
Is my interpreter going to be on time?
Having your interpreter show up late is a real problem. When they show up late, it’s costing you money. We require our interpreters to show up fifteen minutes early, and check in with us when they arrive, so you don’t have to worry (and they follow these same guidelines for remote work).
How do I know that the translation will be accurate, and is it guaranteed?
We use vetted, skilled, certified translators, so yes, we do guarantee accuracy. In highly technical medical instances, we do reverse translation. As some aspects of translation can be very subjective, our interpreters will work with you to get the most authenticity and accuracy possible.
From a court reporting perspective, what is the most important aspect of working with an interpreter?
From being both a court reporter AND a court reporting firm owner, I know what’s most important to you and most vital in this industry – having a well-vetted and experienced interpreter. For example, many people think that Spanish interpreters are a dime a dozen in Southern California, and it should be very easy to get one anytime you need one. But we know that the truth is that GOOD Spanish interpreters are hard to find because they are needed so often and they are always booked ahead, in demand.
Do you offer services outside of California?
We do! We cover the United States and Mexico.
Are there going to be any surprises or add-on fees when I get my bill?
Nobody likes this kind of surprise. All fees are presented up front, before the job ever happens. If we didn’t talk about the fee in your original contract, we don’t bill for it.
What factors determine the translation quote I receive?
The length of the job, the language required, any highly technical or specialized terminology, turnaround time, certifications required, and editable formatting. In essence, the quote is determined by the degree of time and difficulty.
What forms of payment do you accept?
All major forms of credit cards, checks and direct deposit.
What happens if I need to cancel an assignment?
Our interpreters require a 24-hour cancellation notice. So long as you let us know in advance, we’re fine with cancelling the assignment.

“I have been working with Arriva Translations and Vicky Canedy since 2007. This agency has always been respectful of interpreters; they have never quibbled over rates and have never made me feel as if I have to compete for jobs by lowering my rates and standards. This shows me that they value the work I do and are not only looking to increase their profits by quoting clients a high price, but then paying the interpreter a low rate. Many agencies do that, thereby creating an unhealthy reputation for themselves, as well as a strained relationship with the interpreter. I’m very appreciative of, and grateful for, the collaboration I have with Arriva Translations.”

”As the founder and managing partner of a 15 attorney law firm with four offices in California, and having personally practiced both civil litigation and Workers’ Compensation claims defense for over 30 years, I have worked with dozens of interpreting services and hundreds of interpreters in deposition and trial settings. Having that background, I feel qualified to proffer the opinion that the service provided by Arriva Translations is of the highest quality. Victoria Canedy and her team are committed to excellence and have the skills to reach that standard. As the practice of law now requires attorneys to communicate with clients and witnesses who speak a myriad of languages, Arriva provides an essential service. You can rely upon Arriva to find you a qualified interpreter without hassle and at the most competitive rates available.”

”Arriva saves the day! In pro bono and billable legal cases, Victoria and the Arriva Team have responded quickly, accurately, and with utmost professional care in translating foreign documents. Arriva also was available on short notice to certify documents that were “informally” translated so our filings would pass scrutiny by the immigration court. What a relief! I love Arriva’s awareness of the different cultures attached to the languages they speak, and their support for the San Diego Legal Secretaries Association to understand the business needs of legal staff.”

Our jobs need to go forward, and Victoria and Arriva help to make sure that happens, even in urgent situations that occur after hours. Arriva is incredibly responsive, and that’s why we can count on them.”
